Large Group Logistics
We maintain a safety limit of 33 people per trip. For groups of 34 to 60, we run two staggered waves.
- Fully guided from lifejacket fittings to hands-on lesson to 60 minutes on the river.
- Example: Wave A arrives at 1 PM and finishes 2:30 PM. Wave B arrives at 2 PM and finishes 3:30 PM.
- For cohesive social time, the waves can get together using the Waterfront Hangout.

A professional Midtown basecamp: Our clean, adventure-inspired lounge has lockers, changing rooms, and indoor bike racks.
Cool Waterfront Hangout
Our boathouse on the river is a rare NYC find featuring a spacious open-air indoor lounge and garden patio. Here, northern-exposure shade and a steady river breeze remove the city’s heat and transport you to the coast. For only $375 total, you can upgrade to a Waterfront Hangout.
- Refuel: Hydrate and fuel via a self-managed picnic. Your team is responsible for ordering and receiving deliveries. Please note: No formal catering or alcohol.
- Unplug: Play low-tech lawn games (Giant Jenga, Connect Four, Beanbag Toss) and lively board games (Charades, Pictionary, Codenames).
- Coordinate: Set up a pre- or post-kayak basecamp and, for large groups, combine everyone together. People not kayaking can hang out at the basecamp.

FAQ
-
A: 100% of the trip times available are shown right here on this page. These times are based on tidal currents, which control when it’s safe to paddle. We can only run trips about every 6–7 hours, depending on the moon cycle. We can adjust the start time by 30 minutes earlier or later for private trips, but not more.
-
No experience needed. Most people are total beginners, and it always goes smoothly. Our high-stability sit-on-top kayaks and professional guides make it easy and fun, even if you’ve never been on the water before. Everyone wears a U.S. Coast Guard-approved lifejacket that keeps you floating, even if you’re not moving. We’ve safely guided thousands of non-swimmers of all ages.
Experienced folks can even choose sea kayaks or stand-up paddle boards.
-
You’re welcome to bring a reusable water bottle and personal energy snacks for your trip; we have a filtered bottle filler in the boathouse to keep you hydrated. However, if you would like to host a shared BYO picnic or order food delivery for your group, you must reserve a Waterfront Hangout add-on. Catering, food service, and alcohol are not allowed. Because we are a Pack In, Pack Out boathouse, we ask that all social groups manage their own cleanup and avoid single-use plastics to help us protect the river.
-
While our focus is on the river, we can accommodate a few non-paddling guests to stay at the boathouse while the group is on the water. Please coordinate this with us in advance so we can ensure everyone is accounted for.
-
To reserve your spot, full payment is required online. If you’re seriously considering a slot, we recommend booking at least two weeks ahead, especially for weekends and evenings. We don’t put unofficial holds on trips.
-
You’ll use easy, stable sit-on-top kayaks—either singles or doubles. They’re ideal for beginners of all ages, sizes, and strength levels. Private groups cannot choose during checkout, but can let us know at least 72 hours ahead. Otherwise, we’ll give a balanced mix and help people pair up on the day. We recommend not overthinking your pairings, and instead leave it to our team to pair up paddlers in person.
Experienced folks can even choose sea kayaks or stand-up paddle boards.
-
Please plan to arrive right at your scheduled start time or just before. Our team is getting everything ready before your booking begins, so we may not be able to welcome early arrivals.
If you’d like extra time before or after to gather, relax, or enjoy a snack as a group, we offer an optional hangout add-on. This ensures we’re ready from the moment of your early arrival.
The trip will be done at 90 minutes after the start time. If you’d like a bit more time to change clothing, mingle, and decompress, you may need to budget for 15 minutes afterwards.
-
Yes, every adult (18+) must sign a waiver. You’ll get a link after booking–please share it with your group. Signing ahead of time prevents delays at the boathouse. About 2–3 days before your trip, reach out to us and we’ll send a list of who has signed. That way, you can nudge anyone who has not signed.
We have a QR code to scan in person, but this can cause a big delay for groups.
-
We’ll never ask you to go out in showers or unsafe weather — and we’ll fully refund you, unless you choose to embrace the rainy day. We’ll communicate with you ahead to make the go/no-go decision. We know that most larger groups and VIPs need more advanced notice and have less appetite for weather risks.
If you want to change the number of people, simply contact us at least 72 hours ahead and we’ll refund or charge the difference.
Our standard cancellation policy applies:
🔁 72+ Hours Notice: Rebook or cancel via your email for transferable, non-expiring credit. No refunds to original payment method.
⚠️ Under 72 Hours: No refunds, credits, or rescheduling. Includes late arrivals.
⚡️ Weather: If we cancel, we’ll notify you 2+ hours ahead for a full refund or credit.
